Splitters will evenly split the signals giving multiple outputs all having the same signals levels.
Taps are used to distribute high power signals from a main trunk cable giving a much greater level of control of the output signals. It’s a bit like a tap in your house, the main water pipe has a massive pressure, but the tap in your sink gives you the water at a much lower pressure. This means the main pipe keeps its high pressure and can feed multiple taps at the same time.
There are two types of splitters and taps, one for IRS systems (TV & Satellite) and one for MATV (just TV Aerial) systems.
